Dignidad Rebelde with partnership and support from the San Francisco Art Institute Urban Studies program and the Indigenous Arts Coalition and the student union presented an art workshop for young people. We were ecstatic to work with folks from 67 Sueños (www.67suenos.org), the Native American Health Center (https://www.nativehealth.org/services_youth.html) and to be blessed by a visit from CHAMACOS (CHAMACOS stands for Center for the Health Assessment of Mothers and Children of Salinas, and also means “little children” in Mexican Spanish). We talked about our communities, what challenges our communities face such as racism, health issues like diabetes, mutli-racial identity and alcoholism. We learned how much we share in the struggle and we practiced making art to amplify our voices. It was a beautiful day of young people breaking down borders through art.
