Un-settling Alliances is a themed portfolio organized to debut at the Southern Graphics Council’s 42nd Annual Conference: Bridges: Spanning Tradition, Innovation and Activism.
This portfolio brings together eleven artists of varied generations, backgrounds, and relationships to anti-colonialism to focus on connections and alliances across struggles for self-determination, decolonization, and collective liberation. Drawing from the work of printmakers who engage in social, political and cultural themes, this project hopes to visualize and build cross-movement relationships. The project is to debut at the 2014 SGCI conference in San Francisco this March. It will remain on view at 518 Valencia following the SGC conference.

PORTFOLIO DESCRIPTION: This body of work will focus on connections and alliances across struggles for self-determination, decolonization, and collective liberation. Drawing from the work of printmakers who come from varied backgrounds and whose works engage in social, political and cultural themes, this portfolio will reflect the artists’ visualization of issues they are connected to while furthering the conference’s vision and intention to perpetuate printmaking practices that nurture activism, bridge communities, and investigate the relationship between tradition and innovation.
