Sitting on Sacred Land

The four portraits of ancestors from the Nisenan tribe were placed on the mountain side at the For-Site Foundation in Nevada City. The portraits look out to the buttes situated to the west of the mountain they were sitting on. In this direction where the sun sets is also from where the Nisenan people came from and where they go to in the afterlife. The four people in the portraits are grandparents and great grand-parents of Shelly Covert, the Secretary of the Nisenan Tribe.
