#MyHomiesAreMyHeroes Print Project

This screen printed textile peice was created at the opening reception For NancyPilli’s exhibition My Homies Are My Heroes at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco. NancyPilli and I were both students of Micheal Roman as so many young people throughout the Mission District, passing on his unique style of printing to so many artists and influencing the very aesthetic of the community. Almost twenty years ago I met Michael Roman, I heard of him when I worked at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts. He sounded like a magical character and meeting him that was confirmed. I am lucky to call him a mentor, he shared everything he had with me and I loved printing with him, we’d hang out for hours and then share a few beers. NancyPilli lamented his loss to the Mission and with it his printmaking style, as a gesture to assure that it continues to be passed down she invited a few artists to teach them what Michael gave us. It was amazing working with people going through the process from start to finish, I look forward to seeing how they take what they learn and make it their own. Special thanks to jacqui_sirenita for helping me print the last color.
