Critical Resistance
CRITICAL RESISTANCE OAKLAND
#DefundOPD is a coalition of organizations, among whom is Critical Resistance, all waging a campaign to reduce the Oakland Police Budget by 50%, and reinvest that money into alternative non-police programs that can better protect and strengthen our communities. The red color, the typography, as well as the “DefundOPD, Invest in communities” tagline were already being used in campaign materials and assets since its impetus. The vision for this poster design is to support that copy by introducing a new visual element using the historic city of Oakland logo centering an oak tree with wide outspread branches, and placing at its roots a heart that symbolizes the love and care Oakland communities have for their city and for one another.
