For the first time in Northern California, the Ibero-american consulates present a joint exhibition of 40 foreign artists that reside in the Bay Area, whose artwork fuse their roots and origins with a revelation of new spaces of identity in the United States.
The “Exonome: Exhibition of Ibero-american artists in California” will be presented at the offices of the Consulate General of Mexico beginning November 18th.
The purpose of this collaborative effort by the twelve consular representatives of Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal, is to project the manifestations of contemporary art that reflect the life experiences and personal contributions of these 40 artists, residing in California and whose artwork expresses the fusion of their origins with their daily lives of their new community.
During an entire month the facilities of the Mexican Consulate, visited daily by more than 400 people requesting an array of services, will become the stage where the artists will present their projects. These works of art illustrate the artists’ avant-garde styles that strengthen the development of a project that highlights the importance of contextualizing their roots and adapting to a new social space.
The blending of symbols, paradigms and ideas has given way to a new language of expression called Exonome, a term currently used to describe a person who has the capability to adapt to a new geographic space, adjusting one’s personal identity and that of their country of origin. Every participant is part of a new generation of artists residing in California, where cultural diversity flourishes.
The Ibero-american consulates support the projection of these talented artists, creators of a particular artistic expression that serves as a model of the valuable contributions that immigrants have made in this region of the United States.
The exhibit will take place from November 18th to December 18th at the Consulate General of Mexico, located in 532 Foslom St., San Francisco, California 94105.
Venue: Mexican Consulate, San Francisco
