Place: Mexican Consulate, San Francisco
For the first time in Northern California, the Ibero-american consulates present a joint exhibition of 40 foreign artists that reside in the Bay Area, whose artwork fuse their roots and origins with a revelation of new spaces of identity in the United States.
The “Exonome: Exhibition of Ibero-american artists in California” will be presented at the offices of the Consulate General of Mexico beginning November 18th.
The purpose of this collaborative effort by the twelve consular representatives of Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal, is to project the manifestations of contemporary art that reflect the life experiences and personal contributions of these 40 artists, residing in California and whose artwork expresses the fusion of their origins with their daily lives of their new community.
During an entire month the facilities of the Mexican Consulate, visited daily by more than 400 people requesting an array of services, will become the stage where the artists will present their projects. These works of art illustrate the artists’ avant-garde styles that strengthen the development of a project that highlights the importance of contextualizing their roots and adapting to a new social space.
The blending of symbols, paradigms and ideas has given way to a new language of expression called Exonome, a term currently used to describe a person who has the capability to adapt to a new geographic space, adjusting one’s personal identity and that of their country of origin. Every participant is part of a new generation of artists residing in California, where cultural diversity flourishes.
The Ibero-american consulates support the projection of these talented artists, creators of a particular artistic expression that serves as a model of the valuable contributions that immigrants have made in this region of the United States.
The exhibit will take place from November 18th to December 18th at the Consulate General of Mexico, located in 532 Foslom St., San Francisco, California 94105.

Four posters from a national series of exhibitions called Art of Democracy have been censored in Berkeley at the city-run Addison Street Windows Gallery. The curator invented guidelines, which she attributed to the Berkeley City Arts Commission. Among the fifty venues across the country that hosted the Art of Democracy exhibitions, the Addison Street Windows Gallery was the only one to have censored the artwork. Only in the City of Berkeley, which ironically just erected a monument to free speech.
Come and join us Pueblo Nuevo Art Center, in Berkeley to see the censored art from the Addison Street Windows. Saturday November 8th, 2008, 4pm-11pm
The display includes the entire censored Art of Democracy show as well as artwork by additional artist censored at the Addison Street Windows Gallery. Under this curator we are discovering there is a long history of censorship based on the curator's invented guidelines. Come and lend your support to artistic free expression in Berkeley, the home of the Free Speech Movement.
Live screen-printing, music, Great Tortilla Conspiracy and street side display of censored art.
Exhibition will continue until November 30th

A Declaration of Immigration is an exhibition that depicts many of the experiences and viewpoints within U.S. immigrant communities. The works of over 70 artists will help visitors increase their understanding of this complex issue by providing immigrant perspectives that are seldom included in the national debate. As a vital part of the democratic process, artists and community-based institutions play a critical role in any civic dialogue and struggle for social justice. Immigration is indisputably the foundation upon which this country was built. The National Museum of Mexican Art has a responsibility to take a proactive stance, and provide a platform from which many immigrants can speak out - especially at a time in our history, when once again, countless immigrants are being scapegoated and blamed for many of the nation's problems. This exhibition will launch the Museum's three-year commitment to immigrant centered programs.

I was a Teenage Feminist a film by Therese Shechter (see description of film below)
Reclaiming the "F" Word refers to women's movements in the plural-to feminismS-to acknowledge and honor our similarities and differences. The national and international posters in this exhibition reflect a deepening awareness that women's struggles, women's leadership and women's activ¬ism throughout the world challenge oppressive conditions in diverse and creative ways.
Posters from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America explore class, race and gender as they show women at the forefront of struggles for human rights and social change. Powerful graphics depict diverse feminist issues from the suffragettes to the activism of the 1970s to today. The family unit, childcare, labor, ecology, trafficking and violence are just some of the topics covered. Posters show women organizing against the Viet Nam War and against Apartheid in South Africa. They decry the ongoing murders of women in Juarez, Mexico and use of rape as a military weapon in Darfur, Sudan.
Reclaiming the "F" Word will broaden the definition of feminism, and inspire women and men, of all ages, to be proud to call themselves feminists.
